Nestled in the foothills of Park City, Utah, this writer’s retreat offers a quiet refuge surrounded by nature while remaining conveniently close to town. Designed for a couple — a writer and an artist with college-aged children — the home balances the need for solitude with modern comfort. The program includes three bedrooms and two baths within a 2,400-square-foot open floor plan, complemented by a dedicated writer’s studio and workshop space. Expansive windows frame curated views of the surrounding mountains, grounding the home in its dramatic alpine setting.

The design emphasizes durability, sustainability, and harmony with the site. A simple single-ridge gable roof and reclaimed wood siding root the home in its mountain setting while ensuring low maintenance and long-term resilience against the elements. Natural light plays a central role in shaping the interior experience: morning sun washes the main living areas in warmth, while thoughtful shading and overhangs provide comfort in the afternoon. Local, location-specific materials further reduce environmental impact and ground the home in its context.

With modern amenities integrated into a rustic framework, the home creates a place of balance—where creativity, family, and nature converge. The result is more than a retreat: it is a timeless dwelling that fosters inspiration, connection, and durability in the face of Utah’s ever-changing seasons.
